Hello David, I would just like to say that the debate really surprised me, and in fact your arguments their in have made me see a different side of things. Initially I saw it simply as the communications companies trying to generate new revenue streams by inventing new types of service charges without any regard for the freedom of consumers; to a certain extent, I still believe that is true. Yet on the other hand, to believe that Google is such a benevolent entity, always watching out for the good of mankind -- I don't believe that either. Now instead of an ideological debate per se, it looks more like both sides merely tyring to defend their cash flow, and the rights of the individuals involved are more cloudy and un-certain. As you say, we should not rule out a path we haven't tried yet, so how do we know if going against net neutrality is truly the wrong way? Perhaps it would have some interesting effects and spur competition? In any case, I don't suppose to have an answer, the nature about the argument seems more clear to me now than it did. It is wrong for me to feel like I would trust Vinton Cerf more if he weren't working for Google? Thank you again very much, John LaRue On 7/28/06, David Farber <dave () farber net> wrote:
