E-voting plans shelved after extensive trials Julian Glover and Tania Branigan Wednesday September 7, 2005 The GuardianPlans to revive democracy by replacing ballot boxes with online e- elections were abandoned by the government yesterday.The constitutional affairs minister, Harriet Harman, used a written parliamentary answer to announce the change of heart, after trials of e-voting in local council elections showed systems were expensive, unreliable and open to abuse.
