The problem is not the quality of science at Yale and Andover, it is that it is not required. Try googling for President Bush's transcript. His science
exposure: only astronomy and geology as a Freshman and no math.

I agree that the educational and mentoring process is important; but instead of looking at Bush's educational experience from 40 years ago, why not look at his mentors today? We know that Karl Rove is very influential, but what about John Marburger?

From the NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/03/politics/ 03bush.html):

"At the White House, where intelligent design has been discussed in a weekly Bible study group, Mr. Bush's science adviser, John H. Marburger 3rd, sought to play down the president's remarks as common sense and old news.

Mr. Marburger said in a telephone interview that "evolution is the cornerstone of modern biology" and "intelligent design is not a scientific concept." Mr. Marburger also said that Mr. Bush's remarks should be interpreted to mean that the president believes that intelligent design should be discussed as part of the "social context" in science classes."

Surely it's possible for Mr. Marburger to play a stronger, more positive, and more public role; from this article it sounds as if he is blending in with the rest of the White House spin doctors.
