A few really important quotes of de Toqueville's were left out in  
favor of those that he generated for mass consumption.  Try these  
remarks on for size:

After responding to queries from his Prime Minister concerning the  
future of America and it's inhabitants by saying France had no need  
to worry as the American's were "only interested in commerce" and  
would thus never amount to anything, de Toqueville went on to add that:

the American political philosophy was inherently self-destructive, as  
Democracy could never flourish "once the masses realized the could
