Sendmail and Yahoo! Mail Collaborate to Develop and Deploy
DomainKeys; Sendmail and Yahoo! Mail To Begin Testing Innovative
     Cryptographic Authentication System
     - Feb 24, 2004 07:55 AM (BusinessWire)

EMERYVILLE, Calif. & SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 24,
2004--Sendmail, Inc., the global provider of electronic message
management solutions and Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global
Internet company, will begin testing the DomainKeys(TM) cryptographic
authentication solution in March 2004. Sendmail will test DomainKeys,
an initiative recently introduced by Yahoo!, with a wide variety of
open standards software to facilitate rapid adoption across the
Internet.

DomainKeys provide a mechanism for verifying the identity of an
email sender in order to solve common spamming techniques such as
forgery and spoofing -- impersonating the sender of the email to
appear as if it came from somewhere or someone other than the actual
source. This authentication solution leverages public/private key
cryptography to generate a signature in the header of the email
message. When an email message is received from a particular domain,
the receiving system verifies the signature with the sender's public
key that is published in the public Domain Name System ("DNS"). If the
public key cannot verify the signature, the identity of the sender is
not validated and the receiving system's local anti-spam policy should
be applied.
