The IAB paper is a diligent analysis of the impact of Verisign's actions. It
is noteworthy exactly because it does not seek to cloud its analysis with
political, social, business or regulatory discussion.

As upsetting as the current situation is for folks, let's remember that the
IAB is a technical body, established to provide technical guidance. In fact,
on Internet technical matters it is the preeminent body of experts, capable of
offering reasoned analysis of choices and effects on Internet operation.

Rather than being chastised, the IAB should be given due credit for having
chosen to treat its role seriously and limit the scope of its comments to the
areas for which is holds clear expertise.

Slamming what the report does _not_ say, or taking exception to particular
wordings, is a good way to miss the real content and impact of the report. It
shows that this type of DNS wildcard use has one massive, negative effect
after another.

No one reading the list can reasonably be left with any doubt about the
seriousness of the problems caused by such use.
