Dave, I just got the word - the verdict came down pretty quickly -
and it's that the defendants won. There will still be a trial on the
issue of validity (this part was on infringement only) beginning
Wednesday, but that second trial will only be important if the
plaintiff appeals.

Subject: Stambler v RSA goes to jury

Dave, the patent trial Stambler v RSA Security et al went to the jury
yesterday afternoon; a verdict could be rendered today. At issue is
whether patents issued to Leon Stambler cover SSL, and therefore
products that use it.

I attended two days of the trial last week, my report, "Who Invented
E-Commerce?" is at

My guess is that Stambler will lose, but every lawyer I talked with
told me that you can never be certain of the outcome when a patent
case goes to a jury.
