Krass captures the drama of the times amid the burgeoning industrial empires of John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan and others while revealing the essence of a man torn between building his own fortune on the backs of his workers and pioneering the philanthropy movement in America. In writing this first full biography of Carnegie in 30 years, Peter Krass has separated fact from legend by relying heavily on letters, diaries and other writings by primary and peripheral characters in Carnegie's life, extensive archives, and materials previously unavailable to biographers, including critical letters between Carnegie and his top lieutenant and nemesis, Henry Clay Frick. A "must" presentation for everyone in SCS who thinks they know all about Andrew Carnegie. Come learn more about the man we mention daily. The author will be available before and after the presentation to meet with visitors and to autograph copies of his book. BIO --- William Danziger was one of thousands who toiled in Andrew Carnegie's steel mill in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Among other jobs, he changed and repaired the lining of the furnaces, a particularly grueling, hot job since they were never completely shut down. Apparently, the only happiness Danziger knew was when he was drunk. He died at age 59 and is buried in a dreary plot outside Pittsburgh. Nearly a century later, Danziger's great-grandson PETER KRASS has written about Carnegie, a complex figure of the Gilded Age, condemned as a bloodstained tyrant, yet revered as a saintly, peace-seeking benefactor. Carnegie is Krass's eighth book for John Wiley & Sons. Krass recently served as script consultant for a BBC television program on Andrew Carnegie, scheduled to air this winter. He is currently working on Blood & Whiskey: The Life and Times of Jack Daniel, an American Legend. Krass's previous books include the acclaimed "Wisdom Series", among them "The Book of Business Wisdom", "The Book of Leadership Wisdom", and "The Book of Management Wisdom", which have been translated into a number of different languages and distributed around the world. He has also written for Investor's Business Daily and Across the Board. Peter Krass is a graduate of Lafayette College and Seton Hall University and a former marketing manager for Dun & Bradstreet. He lives in Hanover, New Hampshire, with his family. ------ End of Forwarded Message ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as interesting-people () lists elistx com To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
