Dave,

Part of this conversation, among everyone patting each other on the back and
discussing the American ideal of acknowledging everyone else's views and
respecting each others power of expression, has to be the basic fact that
there are a lot of people who do not agree with this ideal. More
specifically, there is a significant sized Muslim movement worldwide that
does
not, and is militarily pushing their own alternate view of humanity.

Whether you're pro-administration or not, you and the President agree on the
value of freedom. Defending the world against radical Islam is defending an
American ideal that you and he agree on. You disagree on methods. But
millions of members of Islamic groups worldwide disagree on the ideals.

This may seem like a basic point, but I'm afraid that it's been missed way
too
often. Israeli Prime Minister Barak forgot at Camp David that Arafat
doesn't
share the Western view of negotiation and compromise. President Bush Senior
seems to have missed it in '91, which has put us in the situation we're in
now. Whatever methods you want to support, they must acknowledge the
significant militant portion of the world that is truly anti freedom. G-d
willing they can be contained or stopped.
