Subject: RE: [IP] The utter nonsense about

It has been a long time since I first and mistakenly ordered "french
dressing" with a salad in New York, or first drank a "french roast" coffee
in San Francisco. In case you wonder, the most common salad dressing in
French is a vinaigrette, and absolutely nobody would substitute that with a
mix of mayonnaise and ketchup. Overburned coffee beans get dumped, not
drank. French fries are belgian, and french toasts only have a very tenuous
relation with the "pain perdu" that my grandmother used to prepare. After
many years, I have come to realize that much of what is called "french" in
America is actually an elaborate practical joke on the French.
