[I thought it was funny that at the bottom of this article was the following
banner link:
"Get discount US flights to and from Singapore & India!"

Anyway, the rolling impact of the war on the world economy leading to a
major world recession will probably start with the collapse of the airline,
travel and then airplane manufacture industries - Rob]

Japan Firms Ban Overseas Trips on War Concerns
Jiji Press English News Service - March 18, 2003

Tokyo, March 18 (Jiji Press)--Major Japanese firms on Tuesday banned
overseas business trips by employees and told workers at overseas units to
return to Japan and secure their safety, as the outbreak of a U.S.-led war
with Iraq seemed imminent.

The moves came after U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday issued a
48-hour ultimatum for Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq or face
war.

Toshiba Corp. , Suntory Ltd., Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. and Showa Denko K.K.
told their employees not to travel on business to destinations such as
nations neighboring Iraq, as well as the United States and European
countries, amid concerns over terrorist attacks.

NEC Corp. decided not to send employees on business to the Middle East, the
United States, Britain, Spain or Australia.

Oki Electric Industry Co. , which was already limiting business trips to the
United States, Britain and the Middle East, expanded the areas to include
the whole world by Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Toyota Motor Corp. decided to temporarily close its offices in
Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, ordering its employees and their families,
totaling eight, along with a Japanese worker on a business trip to Saudi
Arabia, to return to Japan.

Yamaha Motor Co. suggested to 170 of its employees traveling to the United
States, Europe and Asia that they return to Japan immediately.

Hino Motors Ltd. asked its 15 employees in the United States and Indonesia
and their 22 family members not to travel inside those countries and to stay
temporarily inside their residential areas.

Mitsui Chemicals Inc. told its employees in the United States not to use
airplanes as transport, due to concerns over terrorism.
