Hi Dave--
I just had lunch with a friend for almost 30 year, Greg Jones, who works in
the Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA) at the Department of Justice. The
CPI posting of the draft "Patriot II" act (or "Son of Patriot," as some say)
also has a scanned copy of the distributional cover sheet that show's Greg's
name as the comment coordinator--and it give a phone number. This has
resulted in Greg getting a fair number of calls, wanting information about
the bill. I hope that IP'ers will NOT call Greg--he is just the OLA staff
person who was assigned to collect and assemble the comments received from
the reviewers, and he had nothing whatsoever to do with the content of the
legislation. Please don't pester the messenger! Thanks!

(Incidentally, one would think that CPI and other such organizations that
deal with the federal bureaucracy would know more about how the process
works. If they had shown the cover sheet to an experienced federal
bureaucrat, that person could have told them very quickly how to interpret
the sheet--and they wouldn't have made the mistake of thinking it indicated
distribution TO Hastert and Cheney.)
