Dave,

Thought this might of interest to some of your readers.

I was at last game of Kasparov-Deepblue match in 1997 and
at last game of Kasparov-Deepjunior match yesterday.

As many of you already know, last game was a draw and so
match was a draw. Perhaps most intesting was press
conference after the match.

In the midgame, K very unexpectedly offered a draw. The
commentators were astonished since they felt K. was ahead
(I wasn't so convinced K was ahead; Deepjunior had some
interesting possibilities.)

K is still bitter about loss to IBM machine in 1997. "In
1997 it was a good year for corporate profits and corporate
greed" I thought this was very poor sportsmanship.

Here are some of K's other comments:
I was spooked by the first five games and loss to Deepblue;
humans remember, computers don't.

Afraid I'd blunder and lose--computers never make mistake.

Its game 6--one mistake and its over.

I look forward to playing humans who are also nervous.

The people behind Deepjunior said: We agreed to draw not to take advantage
of a human getting tired--this would be bad ending for a
great match.
