The fascinating story about Microsoft's lavish margins for Windows--and
its pitiful performance in other markets--illustrates perfectly the
utter bogusity of one of the most commonly heard criticisms of the
company.

Remember how Microsoft's dominance in operating systems was destined to
enable the company to gobble up every other sector of the computer
market? Well, that OS dominance is as strong as ever--and it hasn’t
helped Microsoft a bit in other segmets of the industry.

Thus the claim that Microsoft could simply absorb the entire computer
software ecosystem have thus been showed up as the paranoid nonsense it
always was.
