IP: Airport security at CDG Airport in Paris

I just came back from Paris and had a personal exposure to airport security 
in Paris. First there were unattended cars and trucks all over the 
entrances to Terminal 1 (the non Air France "old" terminal). Initial 
security was close to a laugh. Inadequate numbers of staff with people 
walking through the metal detectors buzzing away and no one stopping them 
etc etc.

The second level by the gates (at least at United) was very good with 
"random" (did not look at all random to me and I was not 
complaining)  checking of bags, many id checks and some shoes. Probably the 
best I have seen.
