If they can't control the players, then they can't control the viewer. If you can have an non-MPAA approved DVD player (e.g. a PC with a DVD drive) then you can ignore their attempts to force you to watch the commercials at the beginning. (A preview is after all a commercial). The worst offender I've come across is the Richard Sharpe series from BFS Entertainment. The beginning commercial is over 3 minutes long and you can not skip it (with an MPAA Approved DVD player) It's not about illegal copying. That's a red herring. It's all about controlling the viewer.
