Ever smaller, sleeker and cheaper mobile phones have been the trend of the
last few years. But it may be time to think again.

When third-generation (3G) handsets offering features such as fast internet
access reach the market in two years time, they are unlikely to look
anything like today's neat models - at least not at the outset.

Bleakest of all may be the predicament of some of the content providers -
the very companies whose products may be needed to help generate excitement
about the mobile internet.

Many of them are likely to run out of finance well before 3G takes off.
