Hi Dave

I wrote this book review in the hours before the attacks on the WTC and
Pentagon. A slightly revised version as it appeared online today. I
thought you might be interested.

All the best

Nathan

Book review: Body of Secrets, Anatomy of the Ultra-Secret National
Security Agency

The US intelligence agency that will take point to track down the
terrorists responsible for the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks
is the subject of a new book.

James Bamford's 721-page dissection of the ultra-secret US National
Security Agency, "Body of Secrets", looks at the methods cyberspooks use
to eavesdrop on friend and foe. Its implications will make uncomfortable
many Australians, not the least of which our spymasters.

Its task is to intercept and analyse signals intelligence (SIGINT) --
e-mails, telephone calls and faxes -- and distribute the analysis
worldwide to its "customers"; other Western defence and security
organisations. More recently, it has taken to analysing data "in place"
- held on hard drives and other digital storage media.
