The new legislation contains seven new offences including hacking, denial-of-service attacks, website vandalism, spreading viruses, and using computers in offences such as stalking, fraud and sabotage. http://australianit.news.com.au/common/storyPage/0,3811,2944524%255E442,00.html ICANN CLAIMS SUPPORT FOR MEETING REFOCUS ICANN claims that members of the normally contentious Internet addressing community have been supportive of its decision to refocus a key November meeting on Internet security and stability issues. Among the things that could be delayed as a result of the refocus is a much-anticipated decision on the At-Large Membership issue. ID that belonged to a 14 year old student. The ID was apparently posted on a Web bulletin board and all six people independently saw the posting and proceeded to use the ID to access services available solely to registered users. http://www.asahi.com/english/national/K2001092800283.html GERMAN FIRM BATTLES BANNER-FREE WEB CONTENT MediaBEAM GmbH, a German Internet company, is fighting back against Web surfers who demand free content and then install software on their PCs that blocks revenue-generating online advertising.
