[Note: Sure looks to me like IBM has started down the road to building something akin to a 'HAL 9000'. <g> DLH]IBM HAILS 'AUTONOMIC' COMPUTING INITIATIVE Posted October 15, 2001 03:29 Pacific Time WILLING TO PUT its money where its mouth is, IBM Research's top executive on Monday said the company is setting up a grant program for universities and government labs to help further its "autonomic computing" initiative for intelligent computers. Speaking at the Agenda conference in Scottsdale, Ariz., Paul Horn, who oversees all projects at IBM Research, said a key piece of what will drive the growth of the IT industry depends on the development of enterprise-level systems that are self-managing and self-healing that will emerge from initiatives like IBM's.
