Dave

I thought folks on your list would be interested in this
article I recently had published in Telepolis.

http://www.heise.de/tp/english/inhalt/te/7013/1.html

It's about the recent sale of the Usenet Archives by Deja to Google,Inc

The culture of the online community is based on fostering
collaborative activity and online contributions.

How does the technical and research community continue to foster
the online contributions and collaboration? Is there any problem
having such contributions bought and sold? Is there a
way to have nonprofit or academic or research institutions involved
in archiving such collaborative contributions like Usenet?

These are some questions raised in the article and it would be
good to see further discussion of them.

J.C.R. Licklider in his earliest days at ARPA recognized the importance
of fostering collaborative activity and contributions to a common
pool of information and software, if there were to be progress in
the development of computer technology.

Best wishes
