A 17-year-old speaks out against filtering

----------
by Daniel Silverman
An articulate teenager, who copes with the software
filtering that anti-porn advocates zealously install in
public schools, takes a stand against a system that
screens out Planned Parenthood but not the Christian
   Coalition. (06/14/01)

[Note from Matthew Gaylor: Lest you think that censorware just targets
liberal groups for exclusion- I've heard the exact opposite happening with
conservative groups blocked and liberal groups unblocked. I'm damn sure
that the first amendment "Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or
abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the
people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress
of grievances." doesn't mean Congress can pass laws abridging the freedom
of speech...And requiring public schools and libraries to install
censorware certainly seems contrary to the letter and spirit of the first
amendment...Congress shall make no law...]
