David,

A recent copy of Discover Magazine contains an article on advances in
computer imaging and modeling, including a computer-generated image of the
character-laded face of elderly man, with detail and clarity rivaling a
photograph. Tracking and recording movement and activity is certainly
fraught with many possibilities for abuse. But since the majority of the
systems discussed below use digitizing not photographic techniques, it soon
shouldn't be too difficult to fictionalize reality to a degree that is
undetectable.

The real danger, therefore, of the surveillance-society is it's presumed
infallibility. And ordinary citizens do not have the resources to know even
where to begin to defend themselves. Add in the power and pervasiveness of
the media and I certainly wouldn't want to be a public figure.

None of us should accept "trust me" as a viable response. Absolute power
corrupts absolutely.

Regards,
Jae Pudewell
