Satellite: Naval Academy midshipmen cobble together an orbiter for next to
nothing.

When midshipmen at the Naval Academy set out to build a satellite three
years ago, school officials balked at the half-million-dollar price.

So the midshipmen came up with another plan and built one for a fraction of
the cost - using parts from Radio Shack.

The satellite, which is soon to hitch a ride into space on a NASA rocket,
shows what can be accomplished with a little investment in brainpower.
