The Society of Satellite Professionals (SSPI), with the Mobile Satellite
Users Association (MSUA), sponsored a panel discussion, "Mobile Satellites:
Lessons Learned" on March 21 at the Intelsat headquarters in Washington, DC.

--SNIP--

A lot of gloomy post mortems from ex-officers of (old) Iridium, Orbcomm,
Motient and (old) ICO. Many mistakes admitted, except by the FCC, which (of
course) considers it did everything right.

Favorite quote:

"When asked whether the failure of American Mobile Satellite Corp. (now
Motient) to attract consumer users for cellular fill-in service, as it had
originally intended to provide, Carson Agnew, Motient executive, replied in
jest that he thought American Mobile had simply proved, for less money, that
the Iridium market did not exist."
