Hi Dave -

I have been following the ICANN/ domain name dispute at a distance
recently, so I might have missed something, and please excuse me if I did.
As far as I can tell, and despite Ralph Nader's suggestion for a
"dot-sucks foundation," no final decisions have been made about the new
domains.
I was therefore amazed when a friend mentioned the ".ws" domain. He said
that it seemed all the big corporate domains were taken, such as pepsi or
microsoft or whatever. I didn't believe him for a second, since I study
the creation of the Internet and have followed policy (through this list
and other channels) in the last 3-4 years or so, and I have NEVER heard of
.ws. But sure enough, I typed "www.pepsi.ws" into my browser, and got
forwarded to "website.ws, the alternative to .com." They have an ICANN
logo and it appears authorization as a TLD.

Did I not get the "ICANN launches .ws" email? Sorry if it's a stupid
question -

Andy
