The recent E-Business & Technology Survey conducted by the Cutter Consortium indicates that 65 percent of businesses lack an overall e-commerce strategy, and almost a fourth of companies do not have a basic business and implementation plan for e-commerce. Almost a third of the survey respondents do not know when they will have a basic plan. The survey reinforces Cutter's belief that few firms have aligned their business and IT strategies, says Cutter Analyst Sheila Green. Currently, many firms do not include IT in planning high-level strategies. Among survey respondents, only about half of the firms' CIOs had any involvement in the corporate strategic plan. Despite these statistics which might suggest otherwise, the survey respondents are participating in e-commerce. More than a quarter said they participate in e-commerce, while almost half said they advertise on the Internet. In addition, about 38 percent said they deliver goods over the Internet.
