Dear Professor,

I am a Chinese graduate student applying to your department for
a Ph.D. program beginning in Fall, 2000.

I obtained my B.E. Degree in 1998 in Department of Radio
Engineering in Southeast Univ. (formerly "Nanjing Institute of
Technology") in P.R.China with excellent academic and social
performance. Since Sept.1998, I began to purse a Master's Degree in
Department of Radio Engineering in Southeast Univ. in China.

My major is wireless communications. From Oct.1996 when I was an
undergraduate student, I participated in the project of ASIC Design
of the base-band signal processing modules in Base Station according
to the IS-95 standard. My recent research is Designing, Simulation
and Testing of the following modules of CDMA-2000 standard: Forward
Channels (Pilot Channel, Paging Channel, Sync Channel, Traffic
Fundamental Channel and Traffic Supplement Channel) and RAKE
Receiver etc. I program my designs with VHDL language on SUN ULTRA60
/SYNOPSYS platform.

I am very interested in the areas of wireless communications &
related signal processing, and longing to continue my study in these
areas. Since you are a well known specialist in these areas, I
believe that it will be very helpful to my academic career if I have
the chance to continue my research work under your advice.

I have taken TOEFL test in Aug.1999 (score 600). I will take GRE
(General) test in Nov.1999. I estimate my score will be around 2200.

I sincerely hope that you can consider my request and accept me
as one of your students.

Thank you for your time and consideration. If you want to know
more about me, please contact me via email. I am looking forward to
hearing from you.

                                              yours sincerely,

                                                             Lei Luo
