From: "Bill Burgos" <onomrbil () gol com> Store food for Y2K, public urged Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi will call on citizens to store food, water and cash in case of a crisis. Asahi Shimbun The government plans to ask the public to store enough food and water to last up to a week in the new year in preparation for possible computer failures and related problems caused by the millennium bug, well-placed sources said. The government has said that most leading industries are well prepared for problems that may arise from computers failing to recognize "00" as digits meaning the year 2000, but it has decided that members of the public should also prepare in case there is a crisis in January. Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi plans to announce later this month that it is important to be ready to deal with the issue, the sources said. The government is taking into account how the United States is preparing for the Y2K issue. The U.S. government is calling on the public to store food and water for three days, and the U.S. Red Cross Society is recommending that families store enough supplies for a few days to a week. http://www.asahi.com/english/enews/enews.html#enews_25165 Bill onomrbil () gol com mailto:onomrbil () gol com
