Never mind that today's calculators are more powerful - CSIRAC overshadows them with its sheer magnitude. At 2000 kilograms and taking up all available space in a standard-sized room, it is the behemoth of the computing world. And this week CSIRAC celebrates the 50th anniversary of running its first program. After spending decades in a dusty warehouse, CSIRAC is to be exhibited at the new Melbourne Museum from next year. It is being restored with the help of two of the original electronic engineers, Mr Ron Bowles and Mr Jurij Semkiw. The reason? It is the world's only intact first-generation electronic computer."
