Net@EDU members:

The full House Science Committee is expected to vote tomorrow (Thursday,
August 5) on the "Networking and Information Technology Research and
Development Act" (NITRD) (H.R.2086). The markup is scheduled to begin at 1pm
(EST) and may be viewed live over the Internet.

NITRD authorizes the federal government to invest approximately $4.8 billion
over the next five years on basic information technology research. The bill
has gained bipartisan support with over 30 cosponsors and has been endorsed
by the White House and President's Information Technology Advisory Committee
(PITAC).

EDUCAUSE is urging members of Congress to support the NITRD which would
provide continued funding of the NSF's PACI program and other measures
designed to facilitate research in advanced networking and information
technology.
