Give Them an (Even) Hand

Proving that the freedom to use encryption software has
become a nonpartisan issue, a conservative group yesterday
handed an award to the Electronic Frontier Foundation. The
Free Congress Foundation, founded by Republican activist
Paul Weyrich, said that EFF deserved the biannual Liberty
Award for the group's yeoman's work on the Bernstein
lawsuit. Currently the case, which claims restrictions on
overseas shipments of encryption products violate the First
Amendment, is before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
