For those of you who think you may keep your current PC thru the year
2000, it might behoove you to go to National Software Testing
Laboratories:

        http://www.nstl.com/

and pick up their FREE YMark 2000 program. The program tests whether
your hardware (mainly BIOS) properly rolls over. Read the README file
carefully, because it explains why manually setting the date to test the
roll over can fool you, although it is a reasonable way to test software
roll over.

My Compaq Presario CDS 924 fails the test. I have written to Compaq
requesting a BIOS update.
