Regarding Dennis Allison's closing comment on the FCC doing a rethink on
spectrum allocation, you might point interested folks to the speech Paul
Baran presented at the Marconi Award Symposium in June of 1995. He points
out that technology has advanced a great deal (at least 50 years worth)
since the concept of slicing up the UHF spectrum into distinct portions to
avoid interference was first implemented. It's no longer necessary to do
this to avoid interference...yet the practice lives on.
