An official survey done by Japan's Minitry of Post and
Telecommunications(MPT),
mail questinoanaires were sent in Sept. 95, to randomly selected household
(6,400),
offices (5,600) and corporations (2,000).

The result was published on Feb 5, 1996. Here are just some of them.

Return rate were:
71% from household, 74.5% from offices and 85.3% from corporations.

As for PC, they devided PC into 'multi-media PC' and 'other PC'
(doesn't say much about the distinction)

For household ownership:

multi-media PC 3.9%
other PC 14.0
(total) 17.9

For thouse who don't have PCs now, in the future, they want to own:
multi-media PC 19.4%
other PC 22.3
(total) 41.7

For your reference, dedicated Word Processors (wapuro, as you know)
ownership 42.6%
future 17.0

which is sometimes missed from these stats, but I think it's relevant.

For online services:( only online service, or Pasokon-Tushin were surveyed
 to household)

Using online servcies now 2.6%
want to use in the future 34.4

3 years ago ('92), the use was 1.9%, so up 0.7 points.

yet for future use, it was 12.8% in 92, a signicant increase of
22 points, or up 2.7 times, was indicated.

For those who answered using the online services,

 7.7% more than 3 times a week
28.9% once or twice a week

that means more than 60% uses at least once a week.

40.7% says they use e-mail with certain people
39.8% use to obtain hobby and travel related info
32.2% use to obtain business info

these are the 3 major uses.

total of 33.7% of offices are expected to use online services soon.

An average of 3.8 PCs per offices (from very small to large office)
