This institute will concentrate on the integration of High Performance Computing and Visualization. It is jointly sponsored by NCSA and Silicon Graphics, Inc. This will be the first of a continuing series of institutes and attendance will be limited. Please reply ASAP if you are interested in sending representative(s) to this institute. We anticipate that space for the lab sessions will fill quickly. We shall reply to those who express interest with hotel and schedule information. This is a working institute. Attendees will have ample opportunity and assistance in developing and working on applications of their own using the systems at NCSA. (Space is limited!) Registrants may have advance copies of the CAVE tools in order to become familiar with them before the institute. The first VS-Institute will concentrate and integrate efforts in: Virtual Reality and Visualization HPC Applications HPC Systems The goal is to bring specialists in these areas together in a collaborative effort to build more successes in Visual Supercomputing, and to strengthen the foundation for the growth of VS. Participants may attend sessions on: Programming for the CAVE, I-WALL, and Immersadesk Designing applications for VR environments Graphics/VR programming Distributed computing Performance optimization Programming strategies and styles Integrating HPC and VR Building and managing HPC arrays Intersite Integration Attendees will experience Visual Supercomputing examples in various fields. Invited speakers include: -Silicon Graphics staff, on Visualization, High-Performance Computing, and Sysadmin -Bill Sherman and the staff of the Virtual Environments Group, NCSA, on VR systems -Dan Reed and staff, Computer Science, Univ. of Illinois, on system performance tools -Chris Johnson, Univ. of Utah, on SCIRUN -Bob Wilhelmson, Univ. of Illinois, on Atmospheric Research applications -Colleen Bushell, NCSA, Information Design -Charbel Farhat, Univ. of Colorado, on Computational Mechanics applications -Gerry Labedz, Motorola, Inc., on an industrial application of Visual Supercomputing and many other examples of the coupling of HPC and Visualization. Due to the short time frame and limited space, we must have your response as soon as possible. Please reply to: svinson () ncsa uiuc edu Thank you, and we hope to see you at the Visual Supercomputing Institute.
