OUTLOOK MURKY FOR TAXING CYBERSALES A study released last week by KPMG Peat Marwick details "the frustrations of corporate America as it tries to cope with the murky environment created by applying old tax laws to new ways of doing business," says a partner with the firm. "Taxation of electronic commerce varies from state to state, so determining what's taxable and who is responsible for paying those taxes becomes very complex." Some of the companies interviewed for the study said they might consider moving their electronic sales off-shore to escape the reach of state and local taxes. (St. Petersburg Times 1 Jul 96 p12)
