  Object-Oriented University Announced by IBM

  September 13, 1994

Object-Oriented University, a major new education and training
initiative for IBM developers, analysts, designers and
consultants as well as customers, was described today to
180 executives from IBM's largest customers at the customer
  executive conference in Chantilly, Va.

With the potential for faster software creation, better program
quality, enhanced reliability, reuse and transportability
across platforms, object-oriented technology is a key element in
IBM's ability to provide customers with business solutions in
dramatically shorter cycles. Object technology also will help
IBM's customers take advantage of the fast moving opportunities
in the markets of today and tomorrow.

An international program with comprehensive offerings in
object-oriented concepts, programming, analysis and design, the
university consists of residency, extension, continuing education
  and special events programs.

The cornerstone of Object-Oriented University (OOU) is the
residency program, an intensive mix of classroom training, case
studies, lab exercises, mentoring programs and on-the-job
training. Selection of campus sites in the U.S., Asia/Pacific
and Europe for the residency program is under way.

The residency program includes the following programs:

   --  School One - Developer/Tester Training;
   --  Mentored Apprenticeship;
   -- School Two - Team Leader/Designer Training.

The five-week OOU School One session is being piloted for IBMers
this month. All 1994 residency program sessions are scheduled
  for IBMers only.

The first residency program for customers will be offered in the
U.S. in the first quarter of 1995 and later in 1995 in the other
  geographies.

The extension program provides an off-campus alternative to the
residency program. It delivers the residency curriculum in
discrete modules over a flexible time frame.

The continuing education program, including courses in tools,
programming, analysis and design as well as management and
executive training, is available today from IBM's education and
training organizations in the various geographies. In 1995,
this program will offer advanced topics in object-oriented
technology to meet on-going IBM and customer requirements.

The latest applications and technical updates will be shared
through special events such as conferences, symposia, seminars
  and publications.
