3) "For a couple of dollars" Auto industry: BMW has started production in its new US factory. There is much at risk for the heads of the corporation in Munich, who chose the location in South Carolina partly because of the low wages. Qualified workers are lacking in the state. In the new plant, former truck drivers as well as former garment workers will stand at the assembly lines. If the quality of the cars from Spartanburg is not up to par, it would be disastrous. Tough tests for the workers and extremely exact quality controls are intended as catastrophe-prevention measures.
