NAPLES, Italy, July 7 (Reuter) - The United States will
propose a conference of officials from the world's leading
industrial nations to discuss development of telecommunications,
a senior U.S. official said on Thursday.
The proposal would be made during the Group of Seven
economic summit opening here on Friday, the official said. He
spoke on condition of anonimity while aboard a plane to the
summit.
The official said telecommunications had become the largest
single sector of the U.S. economy. A G7 ministers' meeting could
discuss ways to make their respective telecommunications
industries more open, he said.
