         NEW YORK - The worst snowstorms in 16 years paralysed the
northeastern U.S., closing airports, financial markets,
railroads, government offices and businesses.
         TOKYO - A freak snow storm brought havoc to the Japanese
capital, causing scores of traffic accidents, injuring 120
people, and delaying hundreds of thousands of air and railway
passengers.
