The fifth Gigabit Testbed Workshop (aka Gigabit Testbed Jamboree) will be held November 2-4, 1994 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Reston, Virginia. This workshop will present results from the gigabit testbeds being sponsored under CNRI's Cooperative Agreement with the government, and in addition will provide a forum for technical interaction among attendees. The National Science Foundation and the Advanced Research Projects Agency are providing funding for the gigabit testbeds in conjunction with major support from industry. Attendance at this year's Jamboree has been expanded to accommodate a larger segment of the technical community than has been the case in past years. Space is limited, however, and registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis. You will receive notification within 2 to 3 weeks of sending in a registration form on whether you can be accommodated. The program will consist of a single track of presentations and panel sessions over the three days, with a focus on testbed work in the areas of network technology and the networking of applications at gigabit speeds. Topics will include testbed experiences in wide area transmission and switching using ATM and variable-length PTM approaches, gigabit-rate network I/O for supercomputer and workstation class computers, high speed protocols and distributed shared memory techniques, the interworking of gigabit technologies, and the investigation of distributed supercomputing and multimedia workstation applications over wide area gigabit networks. There will be a reception and buffet on Tuesday evening, November 1, starting at approximately 6:30pm. The workshop will include a continental breakfast and lunch each day. A reception and dinner is also planned for Wednesday evening, with Thursday evening free. The workshop will end at approximately 4:00pm on Friday. The registration fee is $325.00, which includes all workshop meals, receptions, and a copy of the proceedings. Each attendee is responsible for making his or her hotel reservations. A block of rooms is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Reston Town Center at the special rate of $110.00 plus tax per night single and $130.00 double occupancy. Reservations must be made by October 12 to obtain these rates. The Hyatt's reservation number is 703-709-1234; be sure and state that you are attending the CNRI Gigabit Testbed Workshop. If you would like to attend, please return the attached registration form to CNRI as soon as possible to ensure that space is reserved for you (a separate form is required for each person registering). Note that a higher registration fee of $360.00 will be charged for registration forms received after October 1.
