"Winthorpe III", the second of Bellcore's experimental Sunshine
Gigabit ATM prototype switches for the AURORA Gigabit Testbed, and the
first outside of Bellcore, was successfully tested and is now
operational in the Distributed Systems Laboratory at the University of
Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.  Among the successful tests was looping
TCP/IP (over ATM) traffic through the switch using an IBM RS/6000
augmented with hardware and software developed at Penn in the AURORA
project. Experiments with the AURORA gigabit transmission facilities
will begin immediately.
