International Telecommunication Union (ITU) October 1993 ================================================================= Gopher-based Telecom Information Exchange Services ================================================== The new Gopher-based version of the ITU Telecom Information Exchange Services (ITU TIES) is available. It offers major improvements in ease of use, information access and delivery, information contents and world-wide connectivity. TIES offers open access to numerous ITU information resources: ITUDOC (e.g., information on Study Groups activities, full texts of some Recommendations), content retrieval infobases (e.g., Status of ITU-T Recommendations), directories (e.g., ITU Global Directory), etc. It also provides access to some information from other United Nations organizations (e.g., Development Activities). No registration is needed to access the TIES open services. Members of the global telecommunications community can apply for a TIES account which gives access to further information resources (e.g., tariffs database), other telecom-related information services (e.g., ETSI bulletin board) and information exchange tools (e.g., e-mail, Internet tools, free MCI Mail account). The TIES interactive Gopher client can be accessed via Telnet (info.itu.ch), dial-up (+41 22 733 7575) and X.25 (#228468111112). Log with 'gopher' to access the TIES open services. The ITU Gopher is also accessible from the main US and European Gophers under "International Organizations". The link file used is: Name=International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Host=info.itu.ch Port=70 Please check document "What is ITU TIES?" (under option 1 on main menu) for information on the services provided and conditions for obtaining a TIES account. There are no charges for the use of TIES. Some classes of users need a subscription to access the ITU/LYNX tariffs database. For additional information, please check the TIES documentation on ITUDOC (option 4 on TIES main menu) or send the following email: To: itudoc () itu ch Subject: <ignored, you can use to document your query> HELP LIST TIES END or contact: Lucio Goelzer ITU Information Services Department Place des Nations 1211 Geneva 20 Switzerland TEL: +41 22 730 5333 FAX: +41 22 730 5337 Internet: goelzer () itu ch X.400: S=goelzer;A=arcom;P=itu;C=ch
