By the way, first time I saw this was maybe 5 years ago in a restaurant
near Mt Fuji. Oh well.

MOTOROLA INTRODUCES PAGER FOR RESTAURANT SERVICE

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (Reuter) - Frantic screams of
''waiter!'' could be a thing of the past. No more suave, yet
unsuccessful, attempts to catch a waiter's eye.
Motorola Inc., maker of semiconductors and communications
equipment, said Monday it is teaming up with ServiceAlert to
introduce a paging system so restaurant patrons can silently
page their servers.
Motorola said the Table Paging system consists of a small
button, built into a sugar bowl or salt and pepper shaker, that
when pressed causes the server's Motorola pager to vibrate and
display the table number requesting attention.
The company said the Table Paging system incorporates its
People Finder paging system and ServiceAlert's call system
technology for the restaurant industry.
Motorola said a major restaurant chain has purchased the
Table Paging system, but it was not named.
The company said the system is available in limited
quantities immediately, and more would be available in January,
1994.
It will lease or sell the system, with the price depending
on the number of table call buttons and pagers.
ServiceAlert, based in Boulder, Colo., manufactures call
system products.
Shares of Motorola were up 87.5 cents to $99.875 on the New
York Stock Exchange.
