     Ron Brown was Chairman of the Democratic party, and an
influential official in campaigns for such notables as
Ted Kennedy and Jesse Jackson.  As Secretary of Commerce,
he will lead the Clinton administration's technology and
economic programs.  In this address, he discusses the
role of the U.S. government in advancing technology and
in promoting U.S. companies abroad.
