Cable company plans to connect to the Internet. Continental Cablevision Inc. announces plans to provide a direct linkup to the Internet, bypassing local phone and other special hookups. {Wall Street Journal}, "Technology," 8/24/93, p. B1
Speaking with various people today at Interop, I learned that this service is a 10 Mbps (Ethernet speed) connection for up to 300 subscribers per loop. Traffic to you is DES encrypted. The LA Times reports the cost is between $70 and $150 per month. Hints were that other such announcements should be expected soon.
