On Thu, 17 May 2001, Greg Owen spewed into the ether:
Can anyone think of a motive for verifying public info? Where's the gain? Perhaps admins will feel like helping out by listing any other blocks they're responsible for, thus providing a neat network map?
The info is not public. Just because a block of IP's is registered to one domain, does not mean that all machines wtih those IPs are located in the same location. For all you know, one machine may be in .cn, while the other one may be in .in, and a third in .jp for an Asian multinational. If they get a /19 from Apnic, they can subnet it as per their requirements, and place the machines anywhere. This information might be available through BGP though.
