One of the recent TED talks.  Yes, I'm all for volunteerism.  Yes, it's great to tell 
people to step up and help in such a situation.

But, as I have been saying for years, and as one of the quotes from the 
presentaiton ("Data is inherently unsexy, but it can jumpstart an area's [disaster] 
recovery") implies, get some training, in order to be ready.  Talk to the 
emergency measures people in your community, or talk to the experts like Red 
Cross or St. John Ambulance.  They will have training for you.

Best get it *before* you need it ...
