Does anybody know the cultural context of the "High Rollers
Extravaganza" ads (used in the last image, more of them available in the
LoC archives).  Was this some kind of theater company, mainly addressing
certain interests?  Were such performances openly advertised in 1899?

But it's oddly fitting (degradation, drowning, drink, dog).
